John Cornyn the Incumbent MOST in Danger of Losing His Seat

Houston, Texas- Cooks says Cornyn is cooked.

After burning through nearly $50 million, John Cornyn is still in serious danger of losing his seat. With four months left before the primary, he has drained his war chest at a pace that suggests his entire strategy is to set money ablaze and hope for the best.

This level of spending for a Senate race is unprecedented—more reminiscent of a presidential campaign’s opening salvo than a typical statewide contest. It’s hard not to draw comparisons to Jeb Bush’s 2016 presidential bid, when his campaign and its Super PAC, Right to Rise USA, blew through more than $130 million and walked away with nothing. Now, Texas appears to be hosting the sequel.

Meanwhile, candidates in states like Ohio, North Carolina, Maine, and Michigan desperately need support so that we can keep the majority. Instead, those resources are being funneled into a campaign where the incumbent is polling in the 20s.

The moment has come for the establishment to acknowledge what’s become obvious: John Cornyn’s time has passed him by.
