Houston, TX – On Tuesday, Democratic Presidential Candidate Joe Biden selected Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate. Biden’s choice of Senator Harris, an original co-sponsor of the Green New Deal resolution and author of the Climate Equity Act, a legislative proposal to “bring a Green New Deal closer to reality,” sends a clear message that Democrats have wholeheartedly embraced the destructive energy policies espoused by the extreme elements of their party.
Biden’s decision arrives as a bevy of Green New Deal priorities have been pushed through the House while Democrats in Congress continue to deny aid or assistance to Houston’s Energy Corridor.
The Green New Deal would be catastrophic for Houston’s Energy Corridor and the millions of Texas families and small businesses who rely on the industry. Furthermore, Representative Lizzie Fletcher’s voting record shows that in the face of a growing movement against Houston’s Energy Industry, Houston lacks an advocate in Congress who will work to protect our energy jobs.
“Vice President Biden’s selection of Kamala Harris as his running mate only further cements the Democratic Party’s embrace of the radical and destructive Green New Deal,” said Hunt.
“Our energy industry isn’t a political prop. Democrats seem to view the industry, built on the backs of hardworking Americans, as a political opportunity to tear down and reshape the economic and social fabric of our country. This approach is as dangerous as it is detached from reality. I can tell you right now that the victims of these policies are the American people. American families throughout the country will watch their energy prices skyrocket, their job opportunities evaporate, and their energy security falter.
“Lizzie Fletcher’s overwhelming support of Senator Harris, despite her anti-energy and anti-Texas rhetoric, demonstrates her willingness to put the goals of the liberal Democratic Party over the heath and future of her district. Anyone paying attention now knows that if Harris and Biden come calling with new radical energy policies, Fletcher will absolutely give them her vote, just as she’s given her vote to Nancy Pelosi 99% of the time.”
Hunt is a Houston native and a battle-tested leader willing to stand up for the 7th Congressional District. While his opponent Lizzie Fletcher made Pelosi Speaker of the House and refuses to condemn the most liberal of Democratic priorities, Wesley is a problem solver who will work with both sides to bring results home to the 7th District.
